When you don't have a resume the question is how to build a resume for free?  Many people don't have the resources to pay for someone to coach them or help them write a resume.

Others don't know how to use some of the word processing tools available at the library well enough to create a resume from scratch using the examples available on the internet.  So what is a person to do? 


There are 2 strategies for creating a free resume, your local employment office and the federal government.  Here's a summary of both;

Strategy 1 - Local Workforce

the first is to go to the local one stop employment office and ask for help.  These offices are staffed with people who's job it is to help you.  They have forms to fill out that will help you create a resume.  It is all paid for with your tax money so it is a free service. 

Strategy 2 - Federal Government
Another option and perhaps a better office is one you can use to build a resume for free from the comfort of your home.  The US government runs a site where you can apply for government jobs.  They have a tool that will create a resume for you to apply to one of these jobs.  It is free tool.  Just create a new account.  Once inside, you just answer a few question and it creates a well formatted resume you can copy and paste into a text document.  Best of all, it's free.
